First NZ new Hino Hybid...

The first new Hino 300 Series 714 Hybrid has been delivered into the fleet of Coca-Cola Amatil NZ Ltd to service the Auckland inner city metropolitan area.

The Hino hybrid, exceeding the Euro 5 emission regulations, has been put into this run due to its very low emissions, and fuel saving benefits particularly in the stop/start Auckland metropolitan area. In Australia, Hino hybrids in similar applications have provided over 30% fuel savings compared to an equivalent non-hybrid truck.
Some of the hybrids features include;
- Starter Function - no normal starter motor.
- Assist Function - hybrid electric motor assists the diesel engine by supplying additional torque during take-off and acceleration.
- Regenerative Function - hybrid electric motor becomes an electrical generator when the 714 Hybrid is coasting or decelerating.
- Retarder Function -the hybrid electric motor operating as an electrical generator during deceleration also creates a “brake retarder” for the 714 Hybrid.
- Idle-stop Function - diesel engine automatically stops when 714 hybrid is stationary, the transmission is in neutral, clutch engaged and the driver’s foot is on the brake pedal. The diesel engine restarts as soon as the clutch pedal is depressed, using the electric motor as the starter motor.
The Coca-Cola Amatil NZ Ltd 300 Series hybrid is a pre-production unit, and is on trial in NZ until the official launch to be held at the The EXPO in March-09.
